Next meeting: Monday 20 February

babiesIt’s time to get inspired.

When the news is bleak, it’s difficult not to feel gloomy about the state of the world. However, the story of Angela Gorman is sure to get you feeling uplifted and ready for action!

The truly amazing Angela is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Life for African Mothers. A qualified nurse, Angela set up the charity after seeing a BBC documentary about the fight to stop women dying in childbirth in Chad.

Our committee member Jackie has organised Angela’s talk, and she says:

Retirement is usually a time for long lunches, golf and a general slowing of pace but Angela’s life post her career as a midwife couldn’t be more different.

I met Angela at a talk at the Overseas Development Institute and was inspired by her commitment, energy and dedication to a cause she is passionate about.

What she has achieved with little resource is incredible and I was fascinated by her work and travel and wanted to learn more about how challenging it had been integrating into the African communities and building relationships with the women she helps there.

You can find out more about the charity on their website.

How can we help?

Come along to the talk! We are also collecting baby clothes –  newborn clothes are particularly needed as well as clothes for older babies.
